I hesitate to write about couples who aren’t happy with their wedding photos, because as photographers we’re all so fiercely protective of our work. We put our hearts into it, and it means so much to us. That being said, it’s a topic I feel is important, especially if wedding photography is something you value. All too often couples don’t research too deeply, or just go with the first or easiest option, simply because they don’t know better. Over the years I’ve photographed many many couples who were unhappy with their wedding photos and wanted a “do over” or what we so often call the “day after session”. I’ve known Holly & Chris for for several years, and while they live here on the OBX, they were married up in Maryland. During a conversation after the wedding, they’d expressed to me that they weren’t over the moon about their photos. They were nice, but lacked any bride/groom portraits they really loved, and overall were just “okay”. I’d mentioned to her that we could always go out and do a portrait session, but she’d already sent her dress off to be preserved. I assured her that if she ever changed her mind, I was happy to do it!
While checking on the status of her dress preservation she found out that it hadn’t even been started yet! It was fate! A quick text to me, and she decided to have her dress shipped back to her. A little persuasion for Chris, and we scheduled them for a “Day After Session” at one of my favorite spots on Pea Island. The weather could not have been more gorgeous and I was thrilled with the way their photos turned out. An even bigger thanks to their friends Jackie & Alan who came along to help and for laughs. Jackie was such a trooper as she walked all over the beach over 8 months pregnant, while Alan held my lights and carried bags! The always talented Heather Events provided Holly’s beautiful bouquet.
