Maternity Sessions
Maternity sessions are all about celebrating this amazing chapter—your growing bump, the excitement in the air, and those peaceful moments before everything changes. Whether we’re barefoot in the sand, chasing golden light on the dunes, or tucked away in your favorite OBX spot, these sessions are relaxed, fun, and full of heart. It’s your story, set against the beauty of the Outer Banks.

a little about
What to expect.
Maternity sessions are designed to reflect you. Some parents prefer a solo session, while others include their partner—or the whole family. Whether it’s just the parents or a full family session with children, we tailor the experience to suit your needs.
For solo and couples’ sessions, we capture a variety of images featuring both parents together, as well as individual shots highlighting that beautiful bump. For family maternity sessions, we begin with group portraits and a more family-oriented feel. Then, we typically give the kids a break so we can focus on more intimate maternity shots. We typically start sessions up in the dunes, and then work our way down towards the water’s edge.
We also welcome outfit changes if you’d like! While we absolutely love a dramatic maternity gown, there’s something effortlessly beautiful about everyday clothing too. Choose what feels right for you—we’re here to help guide and support you every step of the way.

What Should We Wear?
One of our most frequently asked questions is: “What should we wear?”
The short answer: wear what reflects you. There’s no one-size-fits-all—anything goes! That said, we recommend avoiding bold graphics, logos, or overly bright colors, as they can distract from the natural emotion and connection we aim to capture. The goal is for the focus to be on you and your family, not any specific piece of clothing.
Our editing style is light and airy, and many of our clients choose colors that complement that aesthetic—think light blues, tans, whites, blush, soft greens, and muted pinks. For visual inspiration, feel free to browse our website or social media to see what other families have worn for their sessions.
While we love a dramatic maternity gown, there’s also something beautifully effortless about wearing casual, everyday clothing. We usually suggest including at least one outfit change—this gives you the chance to get a mix of styles, from relaxed and natural to something more styled or dramatic.
If your session includes family photos, that can be a great time to switch out of a gown and into something more comfortable or coordinated with the rest of the family. We’ve seen everything from jeans and cozy knits to elaborate gowns—even a maternity swimsuit! The most important thing is that you feel confident, comfortable, and yourself.
