Jockey’s Ridge Engagement Session ⎮ Outer Banks Wedding Photographer

When BJ proposed to Jessica just a couple of days before the annual Outer Banks Wedding Expo, he didn’t know what he was in for! Jess is a girl who knows what she wants and she knew that in order to get the date and vendors she wanted she needed to kick it into high gear. I got a call from Jess just the day after she got engaged, and after securing her venue we were tickled to be her next stop!

One thing I love about Jess is how open she is to suggestions and her vendor’s professional opinions. As a wedding vendor we want your day to be absolute perfection and it’s such much easier to achieve when our couples chat with us about their wishes and really absorb our feedback. Jess and I talked about what she envisioned for her day, and she and her mom put together a “dream team” of vendors. I am SO excited she picked us to tell her love story.

When we first started talking about their engagement session Jess and BJ knew they wanted something a little different than traditional beach/ocean photos. Initially they picked Nags Head Woods, which has a beautiful canopy of lush trees, moss covered ponds, and a precious weathered footbridge. I always encourage my couples to consider a backup location, and in this case I’m so glad they took my suggestion to also visit Jockey’s Ridge State Park. Upon arrival in Nags Head Woods we found heavy rain had closed the main path due to flooding, which made us immediately go to Plan B. These two easily rolled with the punches and after a quick stop down another trail to confirm it was also flooded, we headed on over to Jockey’s Ridge.

Jockey’s Ridge has the perfect mixture of woods, sand, greenery….allllll the things. It was super windy on top of the hill but the end result were some amazing and epic images that totally fit their vibe.
