The Basnight Family

Tucked into the golden hues of fall at Roanoke Island Festival Park, this family session was full of warmth, connection, and coastal charm. Crisp air, soft light, and a backdrop rich with history made it the perfect setting to capture this season of life together.

Some sessions just fall into place in the best way, and this one with the Basnight family was exactly that. When our original beach plans didn’t cooperate with the weather, we pivoted to Roanoke Island Festival Park – and honestly, it couldn’t have been a more perfect fit.

This is one of my favorite families to photograph, with two of the sweetest, most well-behaved kids who make my job so easy. We spent a beautiful fall afternoon wandering the park, making the most of every corner – from the wide open lawn glowing in that soft autumn light, to a quiet dock tucked back in the trees, finally wrapping up along the canal.

One of my favorite parts of our time together was continuing their yearly tradition of Crew tossing his cast net. It’s those little, meaningful moments like that – things that feel so natural to your family – that always end up being the most special to document. Sessions like this are such a good reminder that sometimes a change in plans leads to something even better.
